Manual Machinist (Mill and Lathe)
Woodbridge, ON (On-site) · Full-time · Machining · Experience: 3+ years
We are looking for a manual machinist who is comfortable on both the mill and the lathe. Much of our manual work is one-off: repair parts, tooling and fixture components, prototypes, and modifications to existing parts, often from a sketch or a worn sample rather than a full drawing.
You will plan each job, set it up, and see it through to a good part, working alongside our CNC machinists and design team.
What you will do
Manual machining
- Set up and operate manual lathes, milling machines, and drill presses.
- Plan the machining sequence, workholding, and tooling from drawings, sketches, or sample parts.
- Turn, face, bore, thread, mill, drill, and tap parts to drawing tolerances.
- Machine repair parts, modifications, and tooling and fixture components.
Quality
- Measure and inspect work with micrometers, calipers, indicators, and gauges.
- Check parts against drawing tolerances and surface finish requirements before they move on.
Shop support
- Support CNC and fabrication jobs with secondary operations such as drilling, tapping, and deburring.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and keep the work area clean and organized.
What you bring
- 3+ years of experience setting up and operating manual lathes and milling machines.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Precision measurement skills using micrometers, calipers, indicators, and gauges.
- Knowledge of cutting tools, materials, and machining techniques for steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to work out a job from a sketch or sample part.
Nice to have
- Surface grinding experience.
- Tool and die, mould, or job-shop background.
- Some CNC operating experience, or interest in learning CNC.
- Russian or Ukrainian language skills.
